To use Visual Lint, you must have access to licenced installations of at least one supported analysis tool (e.g. PC-lint, CppCheck, Vera++, FxCop or FindBugs) and development environment (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual C++, Eclipse or CodeGear C++). If you need to purchase a copy of PC-lint you can purchase one from us or via a PC-lint reseller such as PhaedruS SystemS or Kessler Software GmbH.

Configuration

If you are setting up Visual Lint for use with PC-lint for the first time, you might find it useful to take a look at the PC-lint configuration files we use ourselves. The zipfile below contains std.lnt files for each supported IDE, as well as the options.lnt file which defines our warning policy and files we use to suppress common issues in Win32 API and the MFC, ATL and WTL frameworks:

Licence Agreement

Please note that the licence agreement which follows relates to the current version of the software. The licence agreement for previous versions may differ, so if in doubt please refer to the licencing agreement supplied with your installation. You should carefully read the following terms and conditions before using this software. Unless you have a different licence agreement signed by an authorised representative of Riverblade Limited, your use of this software indicates your full acceptance of this license agreement and warranty.

Riverblade Limited, as Licencer, grants to you, the Licensee, a non-exclusive license to use this software program (hereinafter the "software") in accordance with the terms contained in this license.

Note that Visual Lint Build Server Edition is licenced on a per machine basis; all other editions are licenced per user.

Copyright

All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE, including but not limited to any images, texts, and sounds incorporated into the SOFTWARE, are owned by Riverblade Limited.

Licence Types

For maximum flexibility Visual Lint Standard, Professional and Enterprise Edition are available with both per user and floating licences. Visual Lint Build Server licences are per machine, and functionally equivalent to the per-user licences of other product editions.

Per user (and per machine) licences are valid for the purchased major version of the software (e.g. 1.x or 2.x) and can be used for an unlimited period provided the licence is only installed on computers used by the purchased number of licenced users. An upgrade licence must be purchased to upgrade from one major version of the software to the next (e.g. 2.x to 3.x).

Floating licences are subscription based and remain valid throughout the period of the subscription regardless of the version of the software used. If the subscription lapses, the licence can no longer be used.

Product Editions

Visual Lint is available in Standard, Professional, Enterprise and Build Server editions.

Standard and Professional Edition licences are licenced for use with one analysis tool (e.g. PC-lint or CppCheck) and one Visual Lint plug-in (Visual Studio/eMbedded Visual C++ or Eclipse) per user. Hence if you wish to use multiple code analysis tools or Visual Lint plug-ins, an Enterprise or Build Server Edition licence is required.

Export Restrictions

This software is subject to U.K export controls, and may not be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into (or to a national or resident of) Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria or any other country to which the U.K. has embargoed the export of goods. By downloading or using this software, you represent and warrant that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any such list.

Redistribution

1. You only distribute the original Install program of the software.
2. You DO NOT charge, or ask for donations, for this.
3. You DO NOT distribute it with any other product, commercial or not, without prior written permission from Riverblade Limited.
4. You DO NOT distribute a licence key with the software unless authorised to do so by Riverblade Limited.

THE SOFTWARE AND THE ACCOMPANYING FILES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

Good data processing procedure dictates that any program be thoroughly tested with non-critical data before relying on it. The user must assume the entire risk of using the program. The liability of the vendor (Riverblade Limited) will be limited exclusively to product replacement.

In no event will Riverblade Limited be liable for any direct, indirect, consequential or incidental damages (including, but not limited to, damages for loss of business profits, business interruption or loss of business information) arising out of the use of or inability to use this software.

Visual Lint and its accompanying files are distributed "as-is", and without any warranties, either expressed or implied. We will not accept any responsibility for any damage caused by its use (though please inform us of any such occurrence, and we'll do our best to prevent it recurring). In other words, you use Visual Lint at your own risk.
